There's a first for everything (Days 2&3)

Day 2

Saturday, July 13, 2013

There's a lot about trailers that isn't taught and can only be learned through experience. Like how those skylights you thought were so cool suddenly become not so cool at 6 in the morning when the sun is seeping through your sleepy eyes. Like how taking a shower is a good workout for your leg muscles as you crouch low to get your whole head in the water. Or how if you open the bathroom cabinets situated conveniently above, all your stuff will fall out and punch a hole in your sink. Good thing we were parked just outside of Walmart.

After getting ready, we headed into our neighborhood store to refill the snack bag and grab some stuff to fix the sink. Caleb's amazing handiwork rendered the sink usable once again and the hole invisible. Wow, I love this guy.

We decided to take the next few hours to do some sightseeing of Walla Walla and its history.

Fort Walla Walla Museum had a lot of neat displays set up of what life looked like for the pioneers.

As we were walking through the military exhibits, Ellie pointed out one of the mannequins dressed in uniform, “Mommy he's mad.” Lol

An elaborate yoke system was used with mules to pull heavy items

The museum was made up of several buildings to walk through and even had a small village of original structures built in the 1800's.

A little cabin converted into a boys' club house

A really cool play structure at the museum

After that we stopped by the Whitman Mission. The grounds were very pretty. But it was also a harrowing experience looking upon the graves and remembering the terrible massacre that happened there.

Off again we went, driving through the rest of Washington. We stopped at a park just along the border for the girls, and then it was into Idaho!

One way to try to support Ellie's head during naps

We found a nearby RV park that was full, but they kindly let us stay in the equestrian area. We pulled up on a hill where you could overlook part of the park. After cooking up some hamburgers we settled down for the night.

Another experience to add to those things never taught yet forced to learn... if your daughter decides to fill her diaper in your 27ft trailer, prepare immediate routes for evacuation. There is not much ventilation in those things...

Day 3

Sunday, July 14, 2013.

We awoke to the lovely sound of braying horses at 7 in the morning. Ugh... the equestrian area.

For an early wake up call, we didn't make it out as early as we hoped, but we at least were able to empty out the good ole “black water” and fill up with some fresh water. Something new to learn every day.

Today was a big driving day as we wanted to cover as much ground as possible through Idaho and into Montana. Lots and lots of rolling golden fields. Not a lot to see until further into Montana.

We ended up in St. Regis and grabbed some dinner at Frosty's Shakes & Fries. All I can say is NASTY! The food was overpriced and gross and the building was grimy with flies everywhere. Do not go there!

Juliet's face says it all!

Though dinner was disappointing, we stayed in a cool place called something like Nugget RV. First night with hook ups, oh yeah! AC and a microwave finally! We went ahead and bought a Good Sam membership to get discounts at RV parks after that.

The RV park also had a pool and a neat little enclosed playground for the kiddos.

The girls loved the swings and mini wooden fort they had there.

We took a walk around the pretty grounds and noticed how almost every other RV was super nice and updated. But the one that got the cake was an RV that had a slide out covered patio with a pull out BIG screen TV. Talk about taking camping to a new level, LOL.
