Bigger is better - in Texas (Days 38-48)

Day 38

Sunday, August 18th 2013

We drove along the historic route 66 in Missouri where the largest rocking chair in the world is located.

Of course we had to stop and get a few pictures of this 42 foot tall wonder.

Into Oklahoma, through the rolling green hills and under a McDonalds built right over the freeway. Too bad it was closed for remodeling.

Wanting to save some money, we parked outside an abandoned Walmart to make dinner. It's already hot outside, but the trailer seems to consistently be several degrees hotter. Starting up the stove only adds to our trailer gone oven. However, we survived and had a good home cooked meal.

Couldn't seem to make heads or tails of this sight

Feeling adventurous, we decided to drive all night long to get to our destination: Dallas, Texas. After a crazy long day and night of driving, we arrived at the home of our good friends Thomas & Rebecca. Being as it was 1:30 in the morning, we didn't visit for long before heading off to bed.

Days 39-48

(We took it easy in Texas so I'll just recap the highlights of our stay)

Left to right: Elena, Thomas, Ariana & Rebecca

Thomas & Rebecca Bombardier have been our friends for many years and they have two daughters as well, Elena and Ariana.

We were super excited to spend some time with them and just take a break from driving. Ellie and Juliet have done great for how many hours we've been on the road, but it's definitely taken a toll on everyone (wallet's included ;D ).

The first few days were filled with lots of water fun as the temperature was in the high 90's.

Caleb and Thomas took a mini man-cation to San Antonia to check out the Alamo (and eat a 3 lbs cinnamon roll).

Rebecca and I took the girls to a pool. I think we definitely had the "cooler" trip.

Then we all went to a water park called Hawaiian Falls.

The girls had fun splashing through the water while the adults took turns sliding down water slides.

Saturday, Rebecca and I got to go garage sale-ing and later the guys went shooting. Ellie, Juliet & Elena got in lots of play time.

Fun in the tub!

Sunday evening, Rebecca and I went out on a limb and decided to dye each other's hair.

We played it safe and got the 28 wash stuff so that if we didn't like it, the dye would wash out before long. =)

Auburn now

More honey colored

Rebecca had a lot of fun crafty ideas she got off of Pinterest for us to try out. We made t-shirt scarves and flowers, tried out sashes on sandals, and tassel scarves.

We really enjoyed our time with our friends and are so thankful for them letting us set up camp for a few days to just take it easy.

Thomas, Rebecca, Elena & Ariana - thank you guys so much for all the fun memories! We appreciate you opening up your home to us! Looking forward to when we'll see you again.
